How Looking Pretty May Actually Be Good For Your Health. Truly.

While hard data may be elusive, certain studies have shown that physical appearance plays a large role in the development of personality. The thinking goes like this: people form opinions about other people based on what they see. Then, the people being seen tend to fulfill the expectations that they think other people have for them. So, if they are viewed as pleasant looking or beautiful, they begin to think of themselves that way. If they believe that others think they are unattractive, they are conditioned to believe that, too.

This theory, then, links physical attractiveness with self-image. The more beautiful one is perceived to be, the higher the level of confidence and esteem.

If you take this notion one step further, you might make the case that confidence and self-esteem lead to happiness, or a certain amount of happiness. Look good/feel good, we’ve all experienced that. Interestingly, happiness has been correlated with better health, both in individuals and communities. Some studies have even suggested that states of happiness, positive mood, optimism and humor may be associated with lower stress-related hormones and better immune function, that general well-being can protect and predict health. Happy people may live longer, some might argue.

So, what does this all mean and how do we come in? If one way to boost self-image (and perhaps, health) is to look good, we can help you with that.

Last week, I talked about the subtle first-time treatments that can improve your appearance quickly and easily. Today, I’d like to remind you about certain other procedures that offer dramatic results: Fraxel Repair Laser Treatment, Kybella, SmartLipo Triplex and Thermage CPT.

Fraxel Repair: This is the procedure of choice for deep lines, hard-to-erase lip lines, pronounced photodamage, sagging face and neck skin, facial wrinkles and discolorations, age-related/sun-damaged rough skin texture, acne scars and surgical scars. Fraxel Repair allows for deep dermal laser penetration in targeted areas, with greater response than other treatments.

Kybella: Finally, you can slim and contour the area below and around your chin and neck – without surgery. I’m proud to be one of the first physicians to offer the revolutionary Kybella procedure: the first and only FDA – approved, nonsurgical treatment to reduce submental fullness, more commonly known as “double chin.” Submental fullness affects both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain. Submental fullness is often resistant to diet and exercise and can detract from a balanced facial appearance, resulting in an older and heavier look.

SmartLipo: Many times, no matter what we do, our bodies fail to look exactly the way we’d like them to. Body contouring, currently the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure, provides a sure way to achieve your ideal body shape. SmartLipo Triplex is a minimally invasive method for removing unwanted fat and sculpting areas of the body that you’d like to change. A laser treatment that virtually melts fat cells and suctions them away, SmartLipo is one of the surest ways to boost self-image.

Thermage CPT: This nonsurgical facelift will actually transform skin all over your body. The Thermage CPT thermal lift will tighten loose skin on the eyelids, under-eye areas, abdomen, arms, legs and even your sagging buttocks. Thermage CPT, the most effective lift treatment for a multitude of concerns, yields dramatic results without incisions and recuperation. In the eye area, for instance, Thermage CPT reduces “hooding,” improves texture, and tones and softens fine lines and crow’s feet. This new treatment is a safe, effective and unique option for “eyelid rejuvenation.”

Call our office to find out how you can enjoy these dramatic results…and dramatic happiness and good health, too, we hope.

See you soon.

Please, Do Not Feel Bad About Your Neck

So many breakthrough treatments are on the horizon, and as always, my goal is to provide you with the most effective state-of-the-art cosmetic care in the area.

I know, from treating you, that fullness from fat, crepey skin and visible band lines cause plenty of frustration. We have five ways to minimize the appearance of these conditions, so you have choices. There is no need to feel bad about your neck any longer.

First, the latest FDA-approved treatment is Kybella, a series of injections that eradicates fat cells permanently from the chin and neck area. We have seen great success with this new procedure. Then, there is Exilis Ultra 360, which tightens, firms and tones loose and sagging skin and reshapes and melts stubborn fatty deposits. It is perfect for the chin and neck, as well as many other parts of your face and body. Thermage CPT, known as a nonsurgical facelift, is the most effective lift treatment for a multitude of concerns, yielding dramatic results without incisions and recuperation. Next, you can choose Fraxel Repair, a laser skin rejuvenation treatment that targets and improves sagging neck skin. Finally, we offer SmartLipo Triplex for the area under the chin. With this laser procedure, your fat cells will be melted and sucked away, leaving a newly shaped silhouette.

Call our office to schedule a complimentary consultation, and I’ll talk with you about the range of possibilities. Or, plan to attend our Spring Beauty Seminar this coming weekend, where you’ll learn all about these neck and other new cosmetic treatments, see live demonstrations and talk with real patients. It’s a free event, and you’ll receive exclusive discounts and gifts, too.

Love Yourself First

This Valentine’s Day, you may be thinking about the people in your life whom you love. But don’t forget about you.

Being happy with ourselves is a struggle for many of us. For all sorts of reasons, we often have a hard time embracing our strengths, accepting our imperfections and knowing what to do to feel and be our best selves.

I often wonder how we fit into this landscape. We improve physical imperfections. Some might say that people should be content with what they look like, without the extra help that we offer. Over the years, we’ve found that this extra help, when you request it on your own, goes a long way to help you feel better about yourselves. And we are happy about making you happy.

So, this Valentine’s Day, take some time for yourself. If we can help you do that, let us know.

This month is an optimal time to consider our favorite mid-winter treatments, including SmartLipo Triplex, Fraxel Dual and Repair, Kybella, Thermage CPT and Laser Hair Removal.

If you’d like to talk with us about how we can help you feel and look your most happy, call our office for a complimentary consultation. We’ll help you determine what is best for you.

Meantime, Happy Valentine’s Day, and see you soon.

Uncover That Neck

Many of you tell me that you are happy to wear turtlenecks in the fall and winter–but maybe you don’t have to. Because the skin on the neck is so delicate, it’s prone to changes in tautness, smoothness and color, particularly as we age. There are many ways, though, that we can improve its appearance.

Some of you may notice little lines or bands that run horizontally around the neck or vertical cords (platysmal bands) that become prominent. Also, when collagen and elastin decrease over time, the skin on your neck may sag and look crepey. Changes in color may include brown spots and pigmentation, particularly on the decolletage, the chest area. Or, you may see red, blotchy or wrinkly skin, most often due to excessive exposure to the sun.

There are some measures that you can take at home, such as moisturizing and using SPF and retinol products, as you would on your face. But if you are still not happy, come see us. We have many ways to help your neck look beautiful and more youthful. Here are a few:

Infini: This radiofrequency microneedling treatment tightens the neck and jowls and reduces crepiness, too.

Thermage CPT: This tightens skin on the neck and jowls, non-invasively. It’s often called a “Thermal Lift” treatment, and it’s highly effective for many areas of the body.

Exilis Ultra 360: Another thermal treatment, Exilis Ultra 360 tightens skin on the neck and jowls and reduces fat, non-invasively.

Fraxel Repair: This laser treatment resurfaces and tightens the skin on the neck and jowls and reduces crepiness and hyperpigmentation (brown spots). It is the procedure of choice for deep lines, hard-to-erase lip lines, pronounced photodamage, sagging face and neck skin, facial wrinkles and discolorations, age-related/sun-damaged rough skin texture, acne and surgical scars.

SmartLipo Triplex: This laser procedure permanently removes fat by destroying fat cells, removing them and tightening the skin. It is effective for large areas of the body as well as smaller ones, like the neck.

Kybella: This series of injections dissolves submental fat permanently and causes some skin contraction, too. Once fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat, so re-treatment is not expected.

So, if your neck is making you unhappy, call our office today to schedule a complimentary consultation. We’ll devise an individual treatment plan just for you.

See you soon.

Hands Down, The Best Treatment

You may have a fresh face and youthful body, you could be giving away your age every time you wave hello. Your hands are subject to all sorts of use, all the time, not to mention environmental and age-related stresses. Their delicate skin pays a price.

But there is a solution. Radiesse, the dermal filler that we’ve used for years to plump areas of the face, is an effective option for hand augmentation. It plumps the hollow spaces that form on the backs of your hands, restoring volume and providing smooth natural-looking results. Radiesse is the first and only FDA-approved product for this use.

In one treatment, you’ll notice immediate improvement that can last a year or more. You may want to couple Radiesse with a laser treatment that minimizes the dark spots that often emerge on hands for sun exposure or natural aging.

Radiesse injections have been used for years to treat deep lines and depressions around the mouth. It has also been used to correct facial wasting, or hollowing. Because it’s bio-compatible, it can act to stimulate your body’s production of collagen, the natural material that provides structure beneath your skin.

Call our office to learn more about how your hands can look as young as the rest of you.

And…Remember to register for our upcoming Fall Beauty Seminar, scheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 10:30 am. You’ll learn about the latest cosmetic treatments, including Infini, the nonsurgical approach to reducing sagging skin and wrinkles on the neck, and Kybella, the fat-melting “double chin” injection. You’ll also see me perform treatments and “glimpse the new you” on computer imaging. We’ll be offering exclusive discounts and free gifts to attendees.

Men Are Body-Conscious, Too

When people talk about body image, we often assume that they are referring to women. But men experience similar insecurities about their physical appearance, according to many studies published worldwide.

Many men worry about beer bellies, love handles, man “boobs” and hair loss, among other issues associated with aging.

More than four in five men (80.7 percent) talk in ways that promote anxiety about their body image by referring to perceived flaws and imperfections, compared with 75 percent of women, according to a study from the University of the West of England. The study also revealed that 23 percent of the surveyed men didn’t go to the gym because they were concerned about their appearance and 63 percent thought that their arms and chests were not muscular enough.

A study in 2016 by Chapman University researchers, published in the journal Psychology of Men and Masculinity, showed that:

  • About 25 percent of the men were dissatisfied with their appearance, compared to about 28.5 percent of women.
  • More than half of the men had gone on diets in the past year, and nearly 42 percent were unhappy with their weight.
  • About 37 percent did not like the condition of their muscle tone.
  • About 69 percent felt judged on their looks and felt pressure from magazines and television to have a slimmer and more muscular body.

So, if you are male and concerned about your body shape, you are not alone. It’s likely that you

have dieted and spent hours in the gym. Sometimes, these tactics are not enough for certain trouble spots or for men of certain ages.

In our offices, one of the most popular procedures for men is SmartLipo Triplex, particularly for the neck, abdomen and breast area. SmartLipo Triplex is a minimally invasive method for removing unwanted fat and sculpting areas of the body that you’d like to change.

We also find that Kybella is effective for reducing the double chin, a common male problem that often resists diet and exercise. This procedure slims and contours the area below and around your chin and neck, without surgery.

You may also be concerned about the effects of aging, sun damage and stress, all of which can negatively impact how you feel about yourself at home and at work. Many male patients come see us for Botox, particularly for their foreheads and crow’s feet, and for dermal fillers that minimize the folds around their noses and corners of their mouths. Some of these fillers include Belotero, Juvederm, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk and Radiesse. Also, to decrease wrinkles and sagging on the face and around the eyes, many men come to us for Thermage CPT, Infini and Fraxel Repair Laser Treatments.

If you’re not entirely happy with how you look, don’t hesitate to call our office for a complimentary consultation. We’ll try to help you look and feel your best.

Perfecting our Treatments

First, a thank you to all of you who attended our Spring Beauty Seminar this past Saturday. We had a full house of former, current and future patients, all eager to hear about the latest in cosmetic treatments. We talked about the newest and most effective dermal fillers, the best techniques for removing excess fat, and had live Kybella and Liquid Facelift treatments. Glad that you all could come and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in my office in the coming weeks.

When it comes to new treatments and procedures, we don’t simply provide them merely because they are available. My staff and I evaluate their merits, work with them at length and offer them to you only if we believe they are proven and valuable. You’ll know that any treatment that we provide has gone through a battery of testing in our office before we add it to our repertoire.

Kybella, which many of you witnessed this weekend, is a perfect example. We experimented with this fat-melting double chin procedure until we developed an optimal way to increase comfort and results. Many of you have come in for the treatment, and we are pleased with how great you all look. Kybella significantly decreases the submental fat under your chin and jaw line, and the results are dramatic and noticeable. Incidentally, now is a terrific time for starting Kybella—a couple of treatments are usually necessary and the improvements continue to happen week after week.

Meantime, come in for a complimentary consultation, and we’ll talk about how we can help you look and feel your best.

See you soon.

And Now, Your Neck: Option 3 – Thermage CPT

Last week, you heard about Kybella, one of the latest nonsurgical options for an aging neck. This week, I’ll tell you about another successful option, Thermage CPT.

Many of you worry about wrinkling on your neck as the years tick by and don’t like the crepey appearance that occurs on this delicate skin. You may have friends who have had traditional plastic surgery to tighten sags and folds, but procedures as invasive as this are not always necessary. An aging neck presents numerous nonsurgical treatment options, all of which yield effective and safe results.

Definitive improvement is possible, with minimally invasive FDA-approved procedures that we perform routinely in our offices. One of the most popular is Thermage CPT, a thermal lift that yields dramatic results without recuperation and downtime. (You can return to your normal routine right away.) Using controlled radio frequency energy to tighten tissue and collagen, we can reduce skin laxity and wrinkles after just one treatment. Initial results are visible within a few weeks as tightening, smoothing and improved tone and texture are seen in the treated areas. The long-term results occur over time as the healthier collagen tightens and wrinkles lessen. Studies show that the results can last from several months to several years, depending upon the individual aging process.

As with all of our treatments, a specific plan will be developed just for you, depending on your individual needs and concerns. Call our office today to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Next week, we’ll talk about another safe and effective procedure for your neck…Exilis Elite.

See you soon.

And Now, Your Neck: Option 2 – Kybella

Last week, you heard about the radiofrequency microneedling treatment, Infini. This week, we’ll talk about Kybella, one of the latest nonsurgical options for an aging neck. Clearly, one of the most pressing cosmetic concerns for women and men, a wrinkling neck presents numerous treatment options, all of which yield effective and safe results.

Despite what you may have read about drinking extra water, doing neck exercises and rubbing retinoids into your skin, superficial efforts such as these really can’t reverse the signs of aging. Definitive improvement is possible, though, with minimally invasive FDA-approved procedures that we perform routinely in our offices.

In fact, I’m proud to be one of the first physicians in the area to offer Kybella, a nonsurgical treatment that slims and contours the area below and around your chin and neck. It’s the first and only FDA-approved treatment to reduce submental fullness, more commonly known as “double chin.” Submental fullness affects both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain. A double chin is often resistant to diet and exercise and can detract from a balanced facial appearance, resulting in an older and heavier look.

After a series of injections, the fat cells under your chin will be permanently destroyed. Once this happens, they can’t accumulate or store more fat, so your new thin contour is expected to remain over time. In the end, your double chin will be minimized, and lines and wrinkles will have been decreased.

As with all of our treatments, a specific plan will be developed just for you, depending on your individual needs and concerns. Call our office today to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Next week, we’ll talk about another safe and effective procedure for your neck…Thermage CPT.

See you soon.

And Now, Your Neck: Option 1 – Infini

It may not be the first place where you look for signs of aging, but once you notice it, it may become your biggest concern. The neck–and how it wrinkles and sags–produces all sorts of angst in both women and men.

You may be doing flexing and stretching exercises, lifting your head to the sky and pulsing your chin, and you may be slathering on one lotion after another, hoping to tighten what used to be beautiful smooth skin. Unfortunately, many of these techniques produce no results. They just make you feel that you are taking action.

Definitive improvement is possible, though. In the next few blogs, I’ll be telling you about several options for tightening the skin on your neck, all of which yield dramatic results.

First, there is Infini, a radiofrequency (RF) device that smooths wrinkles and firms and plumps skin that has been damaged by routine aging, overexposure to the sun or other stressful conditions. It requires little recuperation time while offering the results of a nonsurgical facelift. Also, it may be used on all types and colors of skin, even that which is dark or tanned.

Using a patented 3-dimensional wrinkle reduction technology system, Infini delivers focused heat energy beneath the skin (epidermis), where wrinkles originate. Through tiny microneedles, RF energy is placed precisely where it needs to go to boost the production of collagen, which is the support tissue that keeps skin looking youthful, full and smooth. The outer skin is left cool and untouched.

In the end, your neck will appear plump and elastic, and lines and wrinkles will be minimized.

As with all of our treatments, a specific plan will be developed just for you, depending on your individual needs and concerns. Call our office today to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Next week, we’ll talk about one of the latest procedures for your neck…Kybella.

Cosmetic Procedures, More Popular than Ever

The market for cosmetic surgery, facial aesthetics and lasers is expected to practically double in size during the next seven years, according to iData Research, a pharmaceutical market research firm based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Estimates suggest that people will spend nearly $3 billion during that time, testament to the safe and effective results that cosmetic treatments provide.

I am excited by all of the possibilities that exist now and by the technological advancements that will continue to emerge. Take, for instance, the range of fillers that we now have to keep you looking your natural best. There are products for fine lines, deep lines, wrinkles around your nose and your mouth, hollowed areas of your cheeks and eyes, and even different ones for your hands. Some fillers add volume; some create structure. We have the ability to address different planes of the skin with different treatments. The options are numerous, and the ultimate effects are more subtle than ever.

When it comes to unwanted fat, we now can remove it with SmartLipo Triplex and also tighten skin afterwards with assorted lasers. In addition to popular areas such as the abdomen, love handles and thighs, we can also treat smaller areas like the chin, inner knees and ankles.

Advancements abound, and we are proud to offer you the latest state-of-the-art treatments as they arrive.

Meantime, remember to save the date for our upcoming Fall Beauty Seminar, where you’ll hear about the newest procedures, and see some of them in action. You’ll learn about Infini, the revolutionary nonsurgical treatment that dramatically reduces sagging skin and wrinkles on the neck. You’ll get to see a live Liquid Facelift treatment and a KYBELLA procedure that melts fat and reduces the “double chin.” You will even be able to “glimpse the new you” on our computer imaging system and take a peek at how restored and fresh you’ll look after treatment.

So, save SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15th AT 10:30 AM, and come see us at the Atlantis Banquet & Events Seastar Ballroom, located next to the Long Island Aquarium at 431 East Main Street in Riverhead.  Free Valet Parking available.
