Beauty Tips for Staying Fresh During Holiday Air Travel
As many of you get ready for holiday travel, it’s important to remember that the dry, high-altitude air in airplane cabins can take a toll on your skin and hair. But don’t worry – with a little preparation, you can arrive at your destination looking refreshed and radiant.
Here are some beauty tips to include in your travel routine:
Face: Cabin pressure can cause your skin to become dehydrated. The night before your flight, apply a rich, thick moisturizer to create a barrier against the dry air. On the day of travel, skip the foundation, as it can sometimes worsen dryness. Instead, focus on moisturizing your face in the morning and again before boarding.
Cheeks: While it’s best to avoid heavy makeup while flying, if you want a little color, use a shimmer powder or cream on the tops of your cheeks and down the bridge of your nose to enhance your complexion. A cream blush and lip balm will also add a natural flush of color without drying out your skin.
Lips: For smooth, hydrated lips, start with a lip stain, layer it on, and finish with a glossy balm. If you prefer a creamy lipstick, go for a moisturizing formula. Skip long-lasting or matte lipsticks, as they can dry out your lips. Remember to apply a generous amount of medicated lip balm throughout the trip to keep lips soft, especially around the edges.
Eyes: To combat dryness and puffiness, apply a rich eye cream under your eyes. If you skip concealer, reapply the cream during the flight, especially if you plan to nap.
Body & Hands: Moisture is key! Apply a thick, creamy body lotion before you get dressed, and don’t forget your hands. Reapply after washing to keep your skin hydrated.
Hair: Airplane cabins can leave your hair flat, staticky, and prone to flyaways. A simple solution: twist your hair on top of your head and secure it with a butterfly clip or fabric band during the flight. When you land, your hair will have volume and natural waves. To refresh your style on the ground, bring a small spritz bottle of water and lightly spray your roots. For those with coarse hair, airplane air can actually help reduce frizz.
Safe travels, and see you soon.
